once upon a time, a long time ago

The computer I am working on, has been through a rework, for the past 2 days. Not sure its any better, but its working! so I’m happy.

I have been nominated by 3 of my face book friends to do a challenge. Thank you Michelle McKinlay, Karen  Duvel , and Tanya Reid. Each person is asked to share 3 or 4 of our old pieces of art, for 5 days.

This is one of the first painting I did. It was between 1966 to 1968. while my husband was stationed in the Philippine Islands.  I was 21_23 years old.

Another old piece is a needle work of my husband and myself, from a photo taken at Knotts Berry Farm, time unknown.   

I found 2 old painting I had started in the 1970’s while living in Indiana. neither of them are finished, and I may go back know and play with them. Do you notice the burnt Orange décor? the blue and white pitcher, is a piece of ceramics that I painted. most of the pieces have long ago been given away or lost.

 

 

This is an old portrait of my in-laws done as a gift in 1978.

I’ve also been doing a couple of graphite sketches in my old journal, that I need to finish. Still have classes I haven’t started, but I am sketching!

this one had a wild hair style and would be fun to paint.

I have also been commissioned to do a painting of a family of three children. I was given several small photos to choose from. not sure which I will settle on. In the mean time I did a couple of little sketches in my journal .

My son, the red head in the paintings above, sent me a gift this week. He doesn’t sport that bowl cut any longer ( that was my handy work) to show his support of my art. Love you, Brad!

Finish What?

Finish what? You never really got started!

I was planning on doing a blog last year, and it really never went anywhere.

The New Year is at hand, and as many people have done, I chose, one little Word. I believe Ali Edwards started the idea, several years ago, as a way to focus on ones goals and purpose for the New Year. I have tried it a few times, as a motivator. Like most resolutions they last a few weeks and I threw it out the window! There was create, focus, balance and who knows what, I don’t even remember them all.

If I am to blog, I decided I should finish what I started last year. So hence my word is ta-da….”FINISH”

Last year was my fourth year to do art journaling. I found face book, and online classes, and it turned from a mild mannered occasional habit into a full blown monster of an addiction.

I signed up for 15 plus paid classes, 5 free groups of year long, prompts, plus several other fun places to hang out.  To be honest I completed less than half of them.  Met so many, amazing artists and friends. I watched videos, flicker, Instagram, Pinterest accounts, google+, tweets, tumblers, and on and on. Still don’t really use them much, but I do look at them.

I am a hoarder and easily distracted by new or shiny objects. I am ashamed to admit how many “new things” I have bought and never used! My other weakness, is, I have the belief if I buy a book on the subject I will absorb everything in it and be able to do achieve whatever is in those pages. Whether it’s a diet book, or how to:  make, your own journals, carving your own stamps, stamps, sewing. I have die cut machines, I don’t use, a sewing machine I haven’t even threaded, stacks and stacks of magazines that are collecting dust, and turning into a fire hazard. Trying to be well rounded has proven once and for all… I am not! I fit in my tiny little box, and I am happy there.

I don’t teach, nor sell anything, I don’t have much wisdom to impart, and I just like to draw and paint and play with my friends. So that’s what I will do this year. Finish the 20 or so Journals I started. I planned on finishing many of the lessons I started last year. I have 5 paid classes I am doing this year, and several free ones. I am doing the DLP and journal52. These are the only ones I have done so far. So many others out there I want to be part of, ill pace myself and see. My favorite subject of all is faces! So this is where I may spend most of my time again this year. I realize it’s been a hot topic for a long time, and some people are over it and moving on…..but I’ll just stick with them as long as it hold my interest.

So I will show you the only few pages I have done this year, and get back to all the stuff I want to ‘FINISH’.

A new month a new post.

I have looked over this new blog site, and I must say….. Frankly I have not worked on any of my classes, because I wanted to get this up and running. many of the classes have been on a break so that is perfect

February was the 29 face challenge and that was something I could do, every night before bed. I will add the pictures here.

 

My Very First Post!

Okay, I have had a few people ask do you have a blog? the answer has always been. no. I don”t. Its easy they say, you should try. Well there are stages, phases and cycles in our life. I am in the winter stages of my life and I’m in a draw and paint stage, definitely in the final spin cycle. I don”t have any great advice and my opinion’s are probably of no interest, to anyone.I don”t sing. I don”t dance, and if I try and tell a joke…. I’ll do one of two things, forget the punch line or screw it up and spend the next 20 minutes trying to explain it! I don”t cook, nor read much. I don”t travel or have cute pets to talk about. So all I have is the drawing and paintings I have been doing of late. Arts and craps have always been my go to for having creative fun. My children are grown, My grandchildren are mostly adults, one teen and one pre-teen. My husband has retired from two 20 plus year careers.What all this means is simple……I have to much time on my hands and I spent my days doing art. This year I am taking several online classes. Life book 2014, Soul Food 2014, Studying under the Masters, just finished a great class with Karen Milstein, Gorgeous Girls, with Kat McBride, Book of Days and several other groups and interests. One of the current groups is 29 faces in February that is done by Ayala Art. This is her third year, my second. Another free group is Gritty Jane”s 40 portraits challenge by Jane Spakowsky. I will try and show my portraits for the face challenges, as my first blog.
